Resurrected Dirty Dozen Regular & the Chocolate War

XXXXXXXXXX
The Batch63 Kapihan today drew
a sizeable 15 people. A pleasant surprise was the visage of a Batch63 Balikbayan among the motley group. It's none other than Dirty Dozen regular Nilo Villanueva. As we all know, Nilo had a major medical rehabilitation to correct his respiratory problem and was sidelined for at least a year in that lonely place called the USA. Thanks to all the prayers from the group Nilo is back in fine form although he will have to abstain from his beloved Johnny Walker and Marlboros this time.

It was also Tonichi Grey's birthday yesterday and people were quietly expecting him to offer to host the Kapihan today. Linggoy Araneta was more outspoken than the rest and actually asked Nilo pointblank if anyone was hosting the breakfast. When Tonichi seemed not to hear Linggoy's loud statement, Nilo took the cudgels for his Dirty Dozen buddy and told Linggoy that he would take care of the breakfast even if his birthday was still in June. Tonichi finally reacted but too late. Nilo had taken care of the bill already for him. So now Nilo is claiming that Tonichi owes him big time! And so Happy Birthday and thanks for the breakfast, Nilo or Tonichi, or whoever.

Linggoy is actually back in the Kapihan after a long absence. We were beginning to wonder if he actually hand-delivers LBC packages himself (to save on expenses) since he's always out of the country. Anyway, the trendy Linggoy brought up the topic of hairstyle. He perked up the Conio boys anew by challenging everyone to grow their hair so they can have pony tails for a new look. Bert Saenz added that then they should also have earrings ala Tonichi Grey. Joey Estagle rolled his eyes and surmised that these guys are 'growing younger' by the day. One conio boy who doesn't make it to the Kapihan is Mon Zaragoza. Yesterday I was at a cocktails in the new Greenbelt 5 mall and couldn't resist taking a photo of him if only to remind the gang about what he looks like.

Probably due to the cold spell, it's flu season in Manila and many people were down this month including me. Coming off from Pharyngitis, I skipped my morning Tennis today and came a bit late for the Kapihan. Even as I sat myself down, I noticed that the growing table crowd was abuzz about the ongoing spirited Email exchange between Batch63 guys regarding Chocolate. Chocolate is threatening to create a rift between California and the East Coast. Somehow involved in the fray are also allies in Manila and Switzerland. This is not a good sign since the strength of the Union is in cooperation. For some reason, Paqui Ortigas is expected to help clear up the Chocolate War but he is keeping silent. For the harmony of the group, Jack Arellano is generously offering his services to talk to Paqui in Spanish and explain the situation if needed. Everyone is hoping that the Chocolate War will reach a desirable conclusion soon and where everyone can harmoniously share and enjoy their Toblerones, Hersheys and Lindts once again.
